18 Year Old Man Involved In Christmas Xbox And PlayStation Attacks Arrested
The big story over Christmas was the DDoS attack on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live by the Lizard Squad that rendered the companies' online services useless. At best, this meant that players couldn't play online with new gifts and at worst, it meant they couldn't get their consoles to work at all as they were not able to access key hardware updates.
According to Serocu, one of the perpetrator is now facing justice after they were arrested in Southport, UK. The 18 year old has not been named but is facing a slew of serious charges such as suspicion of computer hacking, threats to kill and 'swatting'. In case you don't know, swatting is calling an armed swat team on a person in their own home. It is dangerous weapon used by people online.
There isn't much more to go on here, but if the allegations of swatting are true, then this is a very serious case. That isn't even factoring in the potential damages to Microsoft and Sony's corporations. Hopefully the right people will be given their respective punishments in this case. This is a much bigger and insidious issue than not letting kids play video games on Christmas.
