SDCC 2014: Guardians Of The Galaxy Cosplay Parade Featuring… Mostly Batman Villains
by Jeremy Konrad
On Saturday at Nerd HQ inside Petco Park, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy sponsored cosplay parade where the winner would take home an Intel processor, a t-shirt, and bragging rights as the best cosplayer in the land. Needless to say, I sat down right in the stands and was very excited, as I was prepared to see many costumes not only featuring Guardians characters, but other Marvel properties as well. The event was hosted by a woman named Commander Holly, who had an awesome cosplay for Rocket Raccoon. Her co-host came out wearing just a Groot mask, which was disappointing, but I rolled with it, ready to see some Marvel costumes.
It was then I glanced to the section to my left, and noticed something strange. Yeah, there were some Marvel cosplayers, but an alarming number of them were dressed as various Batman characters, and mostly villains at that. I had to chuckle when Commander Holly remarked on the amount of Batman characters on the stage. From classic takes to steampunk versions of characters, The Dark Knight and his fiendish foes were well represented on the Marvel stage, and the crowd certainly seemed to enjoy it as well. Happy 75th anniversary batman indeed.
