"Lizzie McGuire": Disney + Announces Sequel Series Starring Hillary Duff

Isabella? No, it's not the Italian music superstar, it's Lizzie McGuire, back on your TV (well…computer) again!

There have been rumors of Hillary Duff coming back to Disney after contract battles ended the original coming-of-age Disney Channel series, and today they were confirmed at none other than D23 Expo!

Lizzie McGuire was a teenage girl navigating middle school with her best friends Miranda and Gordo, but she had an animated "inner voice" that showed the viewers what she really thought about the situations she found herself in.

"The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie's also grown up. She's older, she's wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting. She has her dream job. She has kind of the perfect life right now."

It was quirky, fun, and a solid nostalgia series for those who are now 20-something. The sequel sounds like Disney is trying to pull at the nostalgia and get the millennial age bracket interested in their upcoming streaming service… and it's working.

Alongside all the Star Wars and Marvel content coming to Disney+ as well as their library of past shows, the service seems almost catered to this demographic, but please! Don't let that stop them from making more great content I am totally here for.

The new series revolve around Lizzie, who is now a 30-year-old millennial navigating life in New York City. Original series creator Terri Minsky will serve as showrunner on the series. Minsky also went on to create Andi Mack for Disney Channel – another heartfelt coming-of-age show.

So where do we find Lizzie now?

"She's working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator. She has her dream guy, who owns a cool SoHo restaurant. She has her dream apartment in Brooklyn. And she's getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday."

As for Lizzie's animated internal thoughts? Yup, they're back to:

"She is still dealing with that 13-year-old no-holds-barred animated Lizzie that's constantly babbling in her adult Lizzie head. So she has to deal with that. But I think that's what's going to make it really special."

Still a fan of Hillary Duff's present work on Younger? Fear not! It's been confirmed that she can and will be working on both series.
