Marvel Double Dipping Like Never Before In February
They may be ridding themselves of some of the lower selling titles at Marvel in an attempt to raise profitability. But don't think that means Marvel will be publishing less comics.
Of late, and especially in five-week months, Marvel has been running extra issues of their monthly comic books. Not just the Point One introductory issues, but doubling up the regular comic books issues for a month, usually written by the same writer with another artist.
But five-week February has more double-shipping Marvel comics than both four week January and five week December.
They consist of Winter Soldier #1 and #2, The Fearless #8 and #9, Avengers Academy #25 and #26, Avengers #22 and #23, New Avengers #21 and #22, Secret Avengers #22 and #23, Ultimate Comics X-Men #7 and #8, The Twelve #9 and #10, Wolverine And The X-Men #5 and #6, Uncanny X-Men #6 and #7, Uncanny X-Force #21 and #22, X-Factor #231 and #232, Deadpool #50 and #51, X-Men #24 and #25, New Mutants #37 and #38,
That's seventeen titles getting more than one issue, including the already-fortnightly Amazing Spider-Man which not only gets #679 and #680 but also #679.1, and Venom getting #13, #13.1, #13.2, #13.3 and #13.4.
January only had seven double shipped comics, including Amazing Spider-Man and a couple of point ones, and that's within a five week month. But December, only got eleven including Amazing Spider-Man.
It's been noted that while the DC Relaunch seemed to shore up a number of low and middle tier titles, Marvel's gradual relaunch of their titles over a number of years has seen the mid list collapse rather. Could this be Marvel's response – cut the lower selling books, publishing double the potentially-better sellers? How long before every book Marvel publish get two issues a month?
