Wednesday Runaround: All The Stan All The Time
PornWatch: The Nook and Kindle's graphic novel section gets filled with… other stuff.
Looking for recent issues of Eric Shanower's award-winning Oz series on the Nook this weekend, I turned up a trove of XXX-men freely mixed in with the single-X variety. A hardcore "submissive erotica rape fantasy" was cuddled up right next to "The Last Unicorn" in Barnes & Noble's best-seller list.
What's worse is that a lot of the porn wasn't even comics; the graphic novel department had become a dumping-ground for ad-hoc collections of ripped-off hardcore JPGs and erotica with titles like "Attack From Behind!"
The Amazon Kindle Fire had less of a problem, but it's still there. Disturbingly, the number-one "comic" in the Kindle Fire's "Comics & Graphic Novels" department on Monday was a text-only chunk of erotica titled "Chili Peppers," which is indeed a graphic novel, but not the kind you'd be looking for in that section. (By Tuesday, it had dropped to number five.)
DeadWatch: Kevin Smith on Comic Book Men on AMC. "They put us after The Walking Dead!" Smith said. "If we don't score there, we won't score anywhere."
GameWatch: Todd McFarlane as Art Director of Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning, out this week
My goal at the beginning was not to have 15 people who think and draw like Todd McFarlane. My job was to sort of inspire and talk about the art from a different perspective; to take our artistic theories and make sure we were applying them so that A) The experience to the gamer was enjoyable and B) That there was never a moment in the game where you look at the screen and say, "I don't even know what I'm looking at. What is that?" I don't care how detailed or fancy it is, it's not right if the consumer is confused at any moment…The best day I have is when I'm the dumbest guy in the room. I say that because my job was to help inspire and guide them, but at no time was it to tell them how to draw or use their imagination. So when they'd come back with stuff that was cooler then I would have even done, I can say, "It's a good thing I'm the boss because these guys could run circles around me they're so awesome." Those are good days.

This is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.
They say I am a work in progress. The fools.
