The Shape Of The Marvel Universe Today – And Still No One Agrees How Ulysses Powers Work

Marvel Comics is deep into Civil War II. And it touches so many titles, with plenty of repercussions. Not all of them intended.

Well in Ultimates, we meet one shadowy body, of the US National Security Council.But are they really in charge? Mighty Thor has its own line-up to rival it. And they hold it in a bank vault full of bullion to underline their influence.

Are these the new Illuminati or Cabal?

Banner still has the Hulk rage,… just not the radiation, in Totally Awesome Hulk. Which ties into our Civil War II theory even more.

But focusing on Ulysses… how exactly do his powers work? Last week, no one seemed to know. And they still don't.

Captain America: Sam Wilson sees a post-Rhodes death discussion where no one seems to know how Ulysses does it.

Ultimates sees this demonstration from the Celestial assault, before Rhodes' death. And talks about how they were vague before, now becoming more distinct. But Captain Marvel describes it to Ms Marve, also pre-Rhodes death like this.

Yeah, mathematics, percentages, that's really not how we see his powers working. We see it as a psychic vision, we are told it's just working it out from the available data. How the available data determines the arrival of cosmic beings like that Celestial or Thanos is utterly ignored.

As for the implications for Ulysees'eistence and use, they are even more ludicrous. Captain Marvel sets out the issues in Ms Marvel.

And then we get to see that in action in the comic. But people have those concerns after one supervillain is thwarted.

There's a perfectly good law right now for going equipped to commit a crime that states,

the Prosecution must show that you:

Had a tool or other article in your possession,

That tool was intended for use in the course of a burglary or theft, and

You were not at your home

Let's not forget here – that Hinjinx stole a tank! This tank!

  And what's more, Ms Marvel and her team knew he would steal a tank and didn't stop bhim. They just stopped him from committing a further crime with it.

I don't think there's a better definition of going equipped.

Though for all my throwing the brickbats at Ms Marvel for this, the issue does start with the best "Civil War II crossover" to date – by showing a real civil war, that of India and Pakistan during the partition. And a possible origin of the Inhuman line form which Ms Marvel descends from.
