How Will the Origin of Carol Danvers Change in The Life Of Captain Marvel #3 (Final Page Spoiler)
Carol Danvers first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 in 1968 as a talented fighter pilot, a former Air Force officer and CIA operative hired as security director of NASA. After being caught in an explosion with the Kree warrior Captain Marvel, she resurfaced a decade later in Ms. Marvel #1 in 1977 with brand-new superpowers as result of her human DNA having merged with Captain Marvel's Kree DNA in the explosion.
Later she took the name. And that was her origin.
But with the movie coming and much of that history being too complicated, the current Life Of Captain Marvel is rewriting everything.
Going back to her family home as her brother wakes from a coma, she's been uncovering secrets regarding her parents' relationship, and not everything went swimmingly. And that her mother blames herself for her father having affairs, before he died.
But there was a device in her father's effects that seems to have summoned a Kree Warrior, in Life Of Captain Marvel #2, now descending upon their home. Which may suggest another origin for Carol's powers, and all starts to sound rather Star-Lordish.
Until the final page reveals a new truth about her mother.
She's powered up with Kree technology? Is she Kree? Was Carol's father Kree? Was Carol's father's girlfriend Kree?
Well, that would be a more 'traditional' way for human and Kree DNA to merge than a lucky explosion…
