New 'Hobbs and Shaw' Trailer: Action's Perfect 'Odd Couple'

Two of the most charismatic characters of the Fast and Furious franchise show us again why they make the perfect action odd couple in Hobbs and Shaw.

New 'Hobbs and Shaw' Trailer: Action's Perfect 'Odd Couple'

Dwayne Johnson, ever the shameless self-promoter, announced the latest trailer for the first Fast & Furious spinoff film.

In video game-like fashion, Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), go through their respective parallel hallways. Shaw faces a number goons to beat up, while Hobbs faces a much larger and muscular foe. Both make short work of their opponents with Hobbs slamming his opponent's face against a scanner to gain clearance while Shaw repeatedly slams a henchman with the bottom of his face covered against the scanner in multiple failure attempts. What's brilliant about the contrived scene is each hallway has see-through glass separating them so one can observe the other in action.

You also see more shots of Brixton (Idris Elba), a supervillain with the typical megalomaniac tendencies and badass in his own right. He seriously needs to be the next James Bond or give him his own action franchise.

The film also becomes a family affair with Hattie Shaw (Vanessa Kirby) and Hobb's Samoan family, among them is Johnson's relative, Joe Anoa'i, better known to WWE fans as Roman Reigns.

While Johnson stars in the spinoff, he confirmed at Sundance he won't be in Fast & Furious 9.

Directed by David Leitch, Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw also stars Eiza González, Eddie Marsan, Stephanie Vogt, and Dame Helen Mirren.

The film hits theaters August 2nd.
