Hannah Means-Shannon to Depart Heavy Metal Magazine – Again
Bleeding Cool readers may be familiar with our old editor-in-chief Hannah Means-Shannon and how last year she joined Heavy Metal Magazine as a Senior Editor . But we then reported on her decision to leave Heavy Metal at the end of the year, citing actions taken by her bosses which she saw as detrimental to the creators she was working with. Heavy Metal's response was to agree with her, dismiss her superiors and invite Hannah back. An action and reward that was so bold it saw her added to the Top 100 Power List. But that was then. She posted to Facebook,
"Hey folks. Regarding Heavy Metal, I'm sorry to say that I'll be finishing up my work there on Jan. 31st. I returned there provisionally and gave it my best for three months. Once I could assess clearly what the goals and outlook for the company under new management would be, it also became clear to me that it's just not the same company I originally joined. Sometimes you have to make hard choices and I'm sorry that this news is probably dispiriting to many friends. I can't thank you all enough for the support you've shown in recent months. Please support the awesome issues of the magazine still coming out where I worked with amazing creators in 297, 298, and 299 where I think I edited 15 stories and have 6 interviews. I'm still working on several other comic editing and journalistic projects and hope to make more announcements soon on that front."
Her departure originally was alongside the departure of CEO Jeff Krelitz, and new management has been in place since. Current CEO Matthew Medney told Bleeding Cool,
"Hannah is an amazing editor and an invigorating energy to be around. We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors and always will appreciate her time at the publication."
Heavy Metal Magazine #298 is currently scheduled for publication on March 4th.
