The Story Behind The Arthur Adams Cover For Fantastic Four #1
This time last year, Arthur Adams created a private commission to recreate the cover to Fantastic Four #100, significantly expanding on the original drawing by Jack Kirby.
As his wife, Joyce Chin puts it, it took him a week – during which time she hardly saw him.
And here's the cover it is based on.
Well, it looks like Marvel Comics liked it too.
And while, a year ago, they wouldn't have been allowed to do anything with it as there was a block on anything Fantastic Four-related being published from Marvel chair Ike Perlmutter, one year on and one deal between Disney and Fox later, they suddenly can.
And they have a new Fantastic Four #1 to use it on… and are wrapping it around the comic as well.
