Doomsday Clock Beats Batman and Walking Dead in Comixology Bestseller List, 7th December 2018

Matthew Snyder writes,

Welcome to the Comixology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

The Walking Dead and Batman are always in the Top 2 spots for the first week of every month. It's so tedious to write about. I have often wished an unauthorized wrecking ball would come in and beat these two, just to mix it up.

Well I got my wish. Doomsday Clock got delayed and now stands as the No. 1 digital comic of the week, becoming only the second book this year to beat The Walking Dead (the first being the Batwedding Issue). So thanks to two Geoff Johns titles (Shazam! also had an impressive debut), DC wins the Top 10 this week. The final score: DC 5, Marvel 3, and Image 2. The dry spell DC went through earlier this year seems long past, and while Marvel poses more a threat lately, it looks as if DC will end 2018 on a high note.

Shazam! Like magic, Billy Batson has reappeared, taking the No. 6 spot in his return. It appears readership was excited for a Shazam! comeback, who was surprisingly absent for Rebirth. Shazam! wasn't the only big DC hero making a long-awaited return this week, as Martian Manhunter had an impressive debut at No. 11. With fewer Superman and Green Lantern titles releasing nowadays, and the failure of New Age of Heroes, DC went to its bench to fill the void. So I've got a question for everyone in the comments: which series missing from Rebirth should DC bring back?

There's some exciting indie news this week, aside from The Walking Dead and The Wicked + The Divine, which always do very well. But Kieron Gillen's Die, had a great debut, landing at No. 13 in the New Issue Rankings, tied with Life is Strange for best indie debut of the year. But Life is Strange had a popular video game to boost its profile. This book just had Kieron Gillen's name. (And the art of Stephanie Hans, let's not forget). Not even Robert Kirkman or Mark Millar could get that high with their new books. (The Magic Order was able to get to No. 15). Speaking of Mark Millar, his new comic Prodigy debuted at No. 22 in the New Issue Rankings. Impressive for an indie, but a shame it's overshadowed this week by Die.

Kirkman better watch out, because at this rate, Gillen will be running Image one day. (I kid, I kid) [Rich adds: I don't, sounds plausible]
