Marvel Increases Dominance Of Comics Marketshare In November 2012
The initial November comics sales figures are out. And what's really interesting? My Little Pony #1 isn't in the top ten. Which means that all the rest are doing better than one hundred thousand… unless the Box Set numbers are being counted separately. Either way, it did help IDW to fourth place, even as Image solidified their third spot on the marketshare chart, buoyed by a new Walking Dead collection that took top spot in the graphic novel chart. Also note how Masks seems to have risen Dynamite marketshare, getting closer to Dark Horse…
Either way Marvel have gained a top ten dominance they haven't had since the DC relaunch over a year ago. Batman #14 gets in at number 2 and Justice League #14 comes in at number 9. The rest are all Marvel Now! titles, with All New X-Men hitting the top spot. Marvel have gained dominance of market share from DC for both share of product sold and share of dollars spent for the first time when it wasn't a five week month for an age.
DC's dollar marketshare fell further from September's 36.41% to October's 31.51% to November's 30.04% while Marvel's shrank slightly since October from 35.14% to 34.35%. Which could well be the effect of My Little Pony. On volume marketshare, Marvel's unit share rose however from 34.35% to 40.23% while DC's shrank from 34.4% to 33.25%. In September, DC had a 7.5 point lead on volume against Marvel, in November, that's now a 7 point deficit.
While comics sales are down from the five week October, they are up based on November last year, though down for graphic novel sales. On the year-to-date, overall comics and graphic novel sales in 2012 are still around 15% up on 2011.
