Jason Segel And Emily Blunt Are In It For The Long Haul In First Trailer For The Five-Year Engagement
Brendon went to see The Muppets earlier in the week, and from what I hear he rather enjoyed it*, so perhaps that's why The Five-Year Engagement, also both written by and starring Jason Segel, looks from this trailer to be an actual decent romcom.
The film is about Tom (Segel) and Violet (Emily "Licious" Blunt), a couple who get engaged shortly before discovering that Violet has been offered a job at the University of Michigan. They put the wedding off for two years, only for Violet to get an extension on the job offer that means delaying it for another two years. Basically, they're engaged for a really long time.
I'm a bit suspicious of it, to be honest, because I've always found the first syllable of the romcom genre to be the most off-putting, but luckily this does also look damn funny.
I rather hope that, at my engagement party, someone will sing a song about all my exes with a slideshow to go with it.
The Five-Year Engagement was directed by Nicholas Stoller and produced by Judd Apatow and Rodney Rothman. It also stars Rhys Ifans as some kind of mad professor. Well, he's a professor, I may have added in the "mad" part myself. It'll be in US and UK cinemas on April 27th 2012.
