Law & Order: SVU Season 25 Episode 1 Preview: A Toast to Munch & More

With the series returning for its 25th season on Thursday, January 18th, here's a sneak preview for Law & Order: SVU S25E01: "Tunnel Blind."

With next week bringing the return of executive producer Dick Wolf's "Law & Order" universe to NBC, we've been getting some previews of what's ahead for the Sam Waterston-starring flagship series, the Mariska Hargitay-starring "SVU, and the Christopher Meloni-starring "Organized Crime." Now, we're getting a sneak preview of the 25th season of "SVU" which includes a number of familiar faces and some interesting updates. Following an introduction from Hargitay, the clip opens up with the baptism of Carisi (Peter Scanavino) and Rollins' (Kelli Giddish) baby. Without giving too much away, a series of circumstances reveals that Benson (Hargitay) is single; we have a moment of remembrance for Munch (the last Richard Belzer); Carisi & Rollins finally get some alone time together after "six months," and a certain compass necklace with connections to Stabler (Meloni) becomes the topic of conversation.

Here's a look at what's ahead on Thursday, January 18th, with S25E01: "Tunnel Blind":

Law & Order Universe: Overviews, Trailers & More

Law & Order S23E01 "Freedom of Expression": In the wake of a murder on campus, the line between free speech and hate speech at a university is examined. Directed by Alex Hall and written by Rick Eid & Pamela Wechsler.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit S25E01 "Tunnel Blind": As the squad celebrates the birth of Rollins and Carisi's child, another child goes missing in broad daylight. Directed by Norberto Barba and written by David Graziano & Julie Martin.

Law & Order: Organized Crime S04E01 "Memory Lane": Stabler must deal with rapid changes at work and home after returning from a dangerous undercover assignment. Bell hires an advisor whose AI technology program could revolutionize police investigation. Jet and Reyes struggle with Whelan's absence. Directed by Jon Cassar and written by John Shiban & Amy Berg.

L&O: Organized Crime Becomes a Family Affair

Back in December 2023, we learned that Dean Norris (Breaking Bad, Under the Dome) had been tapped for a major recurring role for a multi-episode arc. Norris' Randall Stabler is Stabler's older brother who left the family when he was young and now is a successful real estate developer – but Randall has a long-standing tension with Elliot resulting from an event involving their father. In addition, initial reporting describes Stabler's other brother, Joe Jr., as being the youngest brother, who spent 15-ish years in the Army before being dishonorably discharged (though he hasn't said exactly why). He now works for a British wine merchant, doing a little of this, a little of that — and there's something about the work that makes him ashamed to come face-to-face with Elliot, his hero. In addition, the spinoff also sees John Shiban (Ozark) taking over as the show's sixth showrunner.
