Wizards Of Waverly Place Sequel Pilot: Selena Gomez to Guest Star, EP

Disney Branded Television and original stars Selena Gomez & David Henrie are reportedly developing a Wizards of Waverly Place sequel pilot.

Well, it looks like all of those online rumblings about a Wizards Of Waverly Place revival/reboot weren't just rumblings. Reports are that Disney Branded Television and original series stars Selena Gomez (Alex Russo) and David Henrie (Justin Russo) are teaming up on a sequel spinoff series. Gomez would return to her role for the pilot and executive produce the series alongside Henrie – who is expected to return as a series regular. Henrie is expected to be joined by new additions Janice LeAnn Brown (Disney's Just Roll with It), Alkaio Thiele (Call Me Kat), and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess).

With the opener stemming from writers & executive producers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas (Raven's Home), the spinoff would pick up after a mysterious incident at WizTech – where Justin has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. But when a powerful young wizard in need of training (Brown) shows up unexpectedly at his door, Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World. Thiele has been tapped for the role of Roman Russo, Justin's oldest son, while Gianopulos is set to play Justin's wife, Giada. Gary Marsh (Disney's Descendants: The Rise of Red) and Andy Fickman (Race to Witch Mountain) join Gomez, Henrie, Elinoff, and Thomas as executive producers – with Fickman also directing.

Running from 2007-2012, the Todd J. Greenwald-created original series spotlighted the Russo family, where three siblings dealt with the pressures of balancing growing up while trying to gain control over their powers. Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, and David DeLuise also starred – with the cast (except for Henrie) returning in 2013 for the television special, The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex. Today's news comes after several months of rumors & rumblings online about the then-potential project – as well as to what extent Gomez would be involved.
