Marvel Takes 2013 Comics Marketshare Prize – But Not By Much
We tried to work out the top ten comics for 2013 sold to North America through Diamond Comic Distributors… and we got it fairly close. A few in the wrong order in the middle. Here's the official chart below.
Sales were up in 2013 on 2012, 9.04% in total, split between a rise of 10.22% in comics and graphic novels up 6.5%.Marvel took the top spots of marketshare for both numbers of comics sold (36.97% against DC's 33.35%) and revenue raised (33.50% against DC's 30.33%), but a series of moves by DC Comics such as Villains Month, saw Marvel's usual monthly lead cut overall. Both were over the pyschologically important 30% mark.As for grapohic novels, Saga beat out Walking Dead's highest seller, though there was more Walking Dead presence than any other, five out of the top ten and publisher Image pushed themselves up to a 8.00% share of revenue and 8.49% share of sales for the year,
