Warren Ellis On The Wild Storm For Two Years. And Has An Idea About Year Three…

unnamed-25

Warren Ellis has been talking about his decision to take on The Wild Storm, a curated rebooting of the Wildstorm Universe, that originally saw publication from Jim Lee's studio from Image Comics with the establishment of WidlCATS in the early nineties.

Warren Ellis came into it in the later nineties with Stormwatch, on his back of his run on Malibu's Ultraforce comics and, after the success of The Authority, saw the Wildstorm universe remodeled in his image.

But that was a couple of decades ago. And now he's back. He writes in his newsletter about why this goes against his usual dogma for not revisiting old grounds.

The Wildstorm Universe was such a weird mix of all the stuff Jim and his friends loved. And the things in that mix that gave the line its energy back then have all come back to apply to today.

I wrote the first six issues of THE WILD STORM in early summer. Kieron Gillen showed me Jon Davis-Hunt's work,and we got in touch. We, in this instance, being myself and my old friend Marie Javins, marking, I think, our 21st year in the trenches together. She was my first editor at Marvel.

I have the first two years very roughly mapped out. Giving myself space to zig instead of zag should I decide to. I'm contracted for two years, currently, and have a notion of where the third year would go.

As to that image, that shows a planned 24 issues,

Not an actual cover – one of Jon's character sketches utilised to show off Steve Cook's logo and trade dress for the Wildstorm imprint. The black and red box? That's our brand mark.

He's a busy boy. Finality with Colleen Doran for LINE WebToon. Finishing Karnak for Marvel, "one of those occasional jobs where everything that could go wrong did! I hope it reads okay in collection. The artists have been superb and the colourist is a wonder, and thank god for the letterer." Trees is becoming a TV show. Normal is out, he's going on a signing;
