Dick Grayson is Now Called Ric Grayson as Fabian Nicieza Joins Scott Lobdell on Nightwing #51
DC Comics PR has handed the preview for Nightwing #51 to the Comics Beat for Nightwing #51, ahead of publication this week. Solicited as written by Scott Lobdell, well, after Benjamin Percy hurriedly left the comic, he has now been joined on the issue in question by his fellow nineties X-Men writer Fabian Nicieza, credited with additional dialogue. Putting together the writing team that sold millions of mutant comic books, their mission today is to rename and reestablish whoever or whatever Nightwing is now.
Bleeding Cool told you back in September that Dick Grayson was to no longer be known as Dick. A change that the DC executives have been wanting to make for several years, due to unfortunate connotations with that name in recent decades. And they have taken this moment of amnesia/shock/bullet-through-the-head and taken full advantage of the opportunity granted them. Because this Nightwing? You don't know Dick. No one does…
They ran through some options in Nightwing #50 but have now seemed to settle on one. Ric Grayson. Not Rick Grayson, too close apparentl.y… though they would probably sound the same…
Out on Wednesday.
NIGHTWING #51
(W) Scott Lobdell + Fabian Nicieza (A) Garry Brown, Travis Moore (CA) Mike Perkins
Don't forget, this issue features an enhanced foil cover by Mike Perkins!
After the cataclysmic events of BATMAN #55, our hero doesn't remember training to fight, being a member of the Bat family, or being a superhero…and he could not be more content. It's his life, and he's happy to just live it with new friends and a roof over his head (wherever that roof might be). So when Blüdhaven finds itself without a protector and a new group of vigilantes pick up the slack, Grayson is more than happy to yield any perceived responsibility to the people of the city. But as things start to spiral out of control, muscle memory kicks in…and he is startled to discover that he's more than just a pretty face. In Shops: Oct 17, 2018 SRP: $3.99
Thanks to Wolfkin for the typo check.
