A New Name For Uncanny X-Men's Outliers… Will It Stick? (Spoilers)
A New Name For Uncanny X-Men's Outliers... Will It Stick? (XSpoilers for Uncanny X-Men #26 and Annual 2026)
The Outliers are a group of young mutants introduced in the current Uncanny X-Men series by Gail Simone and David Marquez, namely Calico, Deathdream, Ember, Jitter, Ransom, and now Waffles, their Sentinel dog. Initially seeking help from the X-Men, they were taken in as their new students, as they all came to the Haven House in New Orleans. Today, Marvel Comics publishes two Uncanny X-Men titles, Uncanny X-Men Annual #1 by Gail Simone, Francesco Mortarino, Mikki Kendall and Uncanny X-Men #26 by Gail Simone, Luciano Vecchio.

The first seems vaguely nostalgic, with Wolverine and Jubilee watching over The Outliers at Haven House, playing sports, giving very eighties vibes…

But the latter, also with the Outliers in Haven Hosue takes that nostalgia way back.

So as Wolverine and Jubilee revisit their old looks…

Jitter of the Outliers revisit a different time entirely. And giving us a (past) return of Moira Mactaggert… except I remember this scene. Or something very like it. From the original New Mutants graphic novel from 1982 by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, with Rahne Sinclair instead.

And then we see another Outlier, Ransom, also integrated into this time…

And I remember that scene as well… just with Robert DaCosta, Sunspot.

Although other scenes played out differently… and other folk were present…

These are definitely meant to be playing off the same original scenes from forty-four years ago.

Just swapping one South American country for another, along with the characters in question.

And it keeps going. A mining collapse in Virginia…

With the Outliers Calico and Ember, which takes us straight back to Cameron County in Kentucky, even if Mr Lewis is the same person…

Just rescued by Sam Guthrie, Cannonball instead…

While in Kyoto, Japan, we have yet another Outlier, Deathdream…

Steps in for another scene from Sunspot…

So where is this all going? I think you might be able to tell. Because, while Wolverine is revisiting a very real past, and an earlier encounter with the Haven House…

The Outliers are being rescued by the X-Men of this time and taken to somewhere even more familiar…

As well as encountering someone they may have thought they would never see again, if they could but remember her… a certain serial killing horrorshow…

There's only one costume these Outliers can be wearing. And only one name for them to be sporting.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have the new New Mutants. And whatever this timeline is, whatever this state of reality, when normality is resumed, will they keep the name? WHat about the costumes? And, um, what about Mutina?
