Batman #74 – Will Batman Get a Twelve-Step Program?
Batman #74 continues the bonding between father and son, Bruce Wayne and Thomas Wayne, both people dealing with the loss of the other in their respective universes, by dressing up as a bat and fighting crime, and now dragging the dead body of Martha Wayne to be revived in a magic pit. But in the classic case of do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do, Thomas Wayne wants Bruce Wayne to stop being Batman. And has teamed up with Bane to that purpose, if their ends are very different – Bane wants Batman destroyed at his very core, Thomas wants Bruce to be happy again.
Which means in Batman #74, along with shared tales of Bruce's childhood that seem common between realities, we get a little family therapy diagnosis from Father Knows Best…
Even if he has to bring them back from the dead. Also, given what happened with Jon Kent and Jor-El over in Superman, don't let Thomas anywhere near Damian…
So, what would a twelve step programme be like for Bruce Wayne? Admitting being powerless over vigilantism, that his life had become unmanageable? Turning your will and life over to the Spectre? Make a list of all persons Batman has harmed, and become willing to make amends to them all? Even if they are the Joker? Any suggestions?
