This is the first week we've had three creator owned comics in the Top Ten of comics sold in stores on Wednesdays and Thursdays and they're all from Image. And East Of West is barnstorming the charts on its fourth issue.
It's also worth noticing that, despite topping the retailer order charts, in the stores, on those Wednesdays and Thursday, Batman has been beating out Superman Unchained. The combination of Snyder and Capullo outweighs that of Snyder and Jim Lee… and that's not entirely what people were expecting.
- Batman #22
- Justice League #22
- Superman Unchained #2
- Superior Spider-Man #13
- Walking Dead #112
- Uncanny X-Men #8
- East Of West #4
- Indestructible Hulk #107
- Hawkeye #12
- Sheltered #1
Big week for key issues, we sold Amazing Spider-Man #13 (first Mysterio) and #50 (first Kingpin) and Flash #123 (first Earth-Two)
Supurbia #9 from Boom Studios has only 20 interior pages for $3.99. All 20 pages are story pages with no ads but still the whole package including covers is 24 pages for $3.99. Where was the big media bump for Justice League #22? Has anyone spotted any error Lantern rings from the new batch DC made?
Nothing even came close to competing with Batman #22.
Image Comics had a very strong week. Walking Dead fans were searching for adds to their pull boxes and Ghosted and Sheltered seemed to fill their needs. DC was strong and Pandora #1 (from last week) sales where huge this week and almost matched Justice League #22 sales. Marvel seemed to take the week off.
It was almost as if Image new releases Ghosted #1 & Sheltered #1 were stapled together. Most customers purchased them both. The sheer "balls" Image has demonstrated to publish different genres & their success, has created a fan base willing to try something different. It's a golden era for creator owned material.
UPS lost one of my boxes which had Ghosted #1 in it. The second day of new books I sold 28 copies so it would have ranked higher if it was delivered on time. The Image books seem to dominate even over main DC titles like Batman and Superman Unchained. I believe I have a more sophisticated customer base that does not get sucked into the big 2. Looking for a good read where ever they can find it.
It seems that back-issue collectors are trying to track down all female New 52 books. Catwoman, Birds of Prey, Bargirl and Wonder Woman.
