IDW Puts Wally Wood's EC Stories Artist's Edition Back Into Print
Wally Wood’s EC Stories Artist’s Edition has been out of print for some time, and copies are listed on Amazon for just shy of $1000.
Wally Wood's EC Stories Artist's Edition was the third Artist's Edition published by IDW Publishing and put together by Scott Dunbier, following Dave Steven's Rocketeer and Walter Simonson's Thor. Published in 2012, it has been out of print for some time, and copies are listed on Amazon's Marketplace for just shy of $1000. Well, it looks like IDW Publishing is putting it back into print in September 2024, for a far more reasonable $150.
"Wally Wood is the comic art equivalent of Paul McCartney or Elvis, one of the true all time greats. From his brilliant work at EC Comics, Mad Comics and Magazine, to Thunder Agents and his classic early Marvel Daredevil stories, he is firmly entrenched on the Mt. Rushmore of comic artists! Focuses on one of the all-time greatest comic book artists at the absolute peak of his creative powers: Wally Wood. EC Comics was quite likely the finest comics line ever produced, and Wood, as one of its mainstays, set an incredibly high artistic standard. This volume contains a wonderful selection of stories in original art form by Wood, including My World, Came the Dawn, Mars Is Heaven, He Walked among Us, and more. Additionally, there is a fantastic gallery section of covers by Wood. If you've never seen Wood original art, you've never seen Wally Wood!"
Also in September, IDW will be publishing Neal Adams Classic DC Artists Edition.
"NEAL ADAMS IS REGARDED AS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT COMIC ARTISTS OF ALL TIME: A hugely influential and popular artist, Adams redefined the way comics were viewed by both fans and creators. This Artist's Edition presents Neal Adams' original artwork scanned at high resolution and in color (though the art appears to be in black and white) so the reader can view pages and covers as close to their natural state as possible, mimicking the look and even the feel of original art."
And in July, David Mazzucchelli's Batman Year One Artist's Edition.
"An Artist's Edition featuring the groundbreaking reinterpretation of Batman's origin by comic book titans Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. The entire groundbreaking story is included in this 14 x 21 inch collection, the same size as most of the pages were drawn. In 1986, Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli produced this groundbreaking reinterpretation of the origin of Batman: who he is and how he came to be. Sometimes careless and naive, this Dark Knight is far from the flawless vigilante he is today. In his first year on the job, Batman feels his way around a Gotham City far darker than the one he left. His solemn vow to extinguish the town's criminal element is only half the battle. Along with Lieutenant James Gordon, the Dark Knight must also fight a police force more corrupt than the scum in the streets. Batman: Year One stands next to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns on the mantle of greatest Batman graphic novels of all time. This edition includes the complete graphic novel and a new introduction by David Mazzucchelli. All of Mazzucchelli's layouts are presented, giving true insight into a master storytellers process from initial spark to completed page. This is an art book featuring rare and beautiful imagery, a collection for connoisseurs of the form. Chip Kidd, the legendary designer, will be guiding the look of the project. The volume collects Batman #404–407."
