A Grand Day For Doctor Who Cosplayers And Perverts Alike
Okay, nothing quite reached the price of an Action Comics #1 or a Detective Comics #27. But BBC Wales has put an awful lot of Doctor Who stuff up for sale very recently. Here's few of the more interesting ones bought through Bonham's auctioneers the other day.
Kyle Minogue's waitress costume from the character Astrid in The Voyage Of The Damned Christmas episode, described as
a complete waitress costume, comprising; a waitress dress, of black satin effect fabric, with ruched overlaid black taffeta style sleeves, A-line with white coloured net detail to neck line and applied rhinestone buttons to front, with pleated skirt, with label inside inscribed 'Astrid-wire, Kylie', together with a matching pair of bloomers, of black cotton with overlaid taffeta effect fabric, with label inscribed inside 'Standin Stunt Double' and a pair of lace up knee length heeled boots, labelled and inscribed inside '15580. 3 1/2 BMIR, Astrid Big'
went for £3,120, around $5500. Whereas Billie Piper's pyjamas, as seen in Army of Ghosts and Doomsday, consisting of
a nightwear costume, including; a pair of white and multi-coloured polka dot pattern pyjamas, by 'Per Una' (Marks & Spencer), of cotton, together with a 'Per Una' matching polka dressing gown, of towelling type fabric, and a pair of pink Tote type slipper/socks (4)
went for a mere £600. But then there were lots of Billie Piper costimes to choose from, with full descriptions for Cosplayers to put their own together if they don't want to pay wodges of cash for the "actually worn by the actor, still with their DNA in the seams" versions. Such as;
three pairs of
synthetic fabric and cotton mix 'Topshop' trousers, three turquoise coloured angora-mix 'Punky Fish' knitted hooded tops, one having had label removed and paint chips to zip, two 'American Apparel' black v-neck vest tops, of cotton mix together with a dark grey coloured nylon 'Diesel' jacket, with faux sheepskin lining to hood and faux fur edging (9)
And
two Union Jack designed T-shirts, one labelled inside 'Soll', of elasticated cotton fabric, and a 'Firetrap' jacket, of quilted nylon and polyester mix, with zip and press-stud fastenings to front (3)
But then there were those who wanted a piece of David Tennant, Probably literally. Which is how his pale blue shirt,
the 'Uni Qlo' shirt, of linen mix fabric, with make-up staining to collar, and cream coloured buttons
Went for £1260. And how four of his neckties
a brown and blue geometric pattern tie, labelled 'Daniel Hechter', cut in half with applied Velcro®, used for an action sequence, a brown 'Duffer St. George' tie, with repeating floral motif in blue and white, a brown tie with repeating s-shaped motif, labelled 'Thomas Nash', used during 'The Idiot's Lantern' and a black tie with brown and blue stripes, labelled 'Rocha.John Rocha' (4)
went for £1620. That's £400 ($700) a tie! And as for his dining attire from Voyage Of The Damned
a 'Paul Smith' two-piece dinner suit, of black wool-mohair mix, with patterned silk effect lining, with self buttons to front and cuffs, labelled inside 'Paul Smith, London' and 'The Byard', together with a white cotton 'Paul Smith' shirt, with pleated detail front and blue embroidered button holes to cuffs (3)
Sold for £5,040. Wow.One of the other impressive suits was that worn by David Morrissey in The Next Doctor Christmas Special, described as
a frock coat of checked mustard coloured wool, with applied brown velvet detail to collar, a red coloured brocade waistcoat, with repeating gold coloured floral motif, and brass buttons, a pair of black coloured wool trousers, all pieces labelled inside 'Angels The Costumiers' and inscribed 'David Morrisey, April 2008' a cream coloured Victorian style shirt, of cotton, together with a pair of braces in beige and brown colour, and a gold coloured silk effect cravat of brocade type fabric and a further brown and blue checked great coat, of wool, with blue lining and labelled as before (7)
No idea if Tony Lee paid the £3,120 price for that one. And Freema Agyeman's costime for The Doctor's Daughter has a very special provenance
comprising; a brown leather jacket, covered in mud stained detail, labelled 'Miss Selfridge' and with further label applied over inscribed 'Martha, Dirty', a wine coloured ribbed vest, of cotton, labelled inside 'Jigsaw', and a pair of black 'Gap' jeans, again with applied mud detail and labelled inside inscribed 'Martha, Dirty' (3)
Dirty Martha. Dirty Martha. £840 to the man in the trenchcoat making sudden rhythmic movements.
Oh and own up. Who bought the Torchwood Landrover for £18,000?
There were also a lot of alien costumes from the original Doctor Who series. Look forward to a few of these making the rounds at San Diego…
Yeah, about that last one, Just don't ask, okay?
