Saturday Runaround – Is This The End Of Inking As We Know It?

Comics2FilmWatch: Death Rite shooting in Pennsylvania

After being introduced at the audition, Rose and Scholl became instant friends, partially due to their shared interest in the horror movie genre. Scholl co-owns a comic and film production company, Paranoid Comics, LLC, with two friends. Besides "Death Rite," the company has a few other projects in the works, all in the early stages and mostly within the horror genre, Scholl said. A fairly new venture, Paranoid Comics will produce films and graphic novels, either comics-turned-films or vice versa, he said.

DoctorWhoWatch: A Clockwork Droid costume from A Girl In The Fireplace, estimated to sell for £300-£400, sold for £5000 at Bonham's Auction yesterday.

EndOfTimesWatch: Who needs artists? Or writers? Automatic comics for business

Pixton has created software and tools that allow the least artistically inclined among us to create comics on the web, including a stable of posable characters, props and speech bubbles that can be arranged in a variety of panel set-ups.

With a few clicks of a mouse, a hint of colour, introduction of characters and props and tweaks made by clicking and dragging, a white square can come alive with a home-grown parody, morality play or office scenario. Anyone who logs in can browse and augment comics created by other would-be artists.

CatholicWatch: Is this a papal monopoly?
"House on the Moor Books is pleased to announce it has secured the exclusive rights to distribute the iconic Classics Illustrated line of comic books to the Catholic market, including schools and stores. Classics Illustrated was a defining feature of the American comics landscape throughout the mid-20th century. Selling well into the millions, the sturdy comics bring to life some of the greatest stories, both fiction and non-fiction, ever told."
PocketWatch: Dave Castelnuovo of Pocket God talks price points on digital comics.
"I really think the price point is what is keeping the comics industry from doubling or tripling in revenue. $2.99 and even $1.99 per issue is just too high for most people to easily buy into a long series. I recently started catching up on Bone in the app store and it's going to cost me over $100 bucks to read the whole thing. While I can afford it, I can't imagine a kid is going to invest that much money into something when they can play Angry Birds for days on end for a single $0.99 purchase."
InkWatch: Sean Murphy on the end of inking;
"I imagine that even if Marvel and DC stop their inking rates, the most in-demand artists could still get what they want if they fought for it.  If Bachalo wants Townsend to ink his Xmen, he'll get his way.  And if I prove myself valuable to DC, I'll still get my rates as well.  If they cut my inking rate, I'll just up my pencilling rate by the same amount. "

Saturday Runaround – Is This The End Of Inking As We Know It?This is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.
