TCAF, VanCAF Combine To Form Colossal Canadian Comic Con Conglomerate

According to a press release sent out to all respectable comics new websites, and Bleeding Cool, Canadian comic festivals Toronto Comics Art Festival and Vancouver Comics Art Festival will join forces, and next year's VanCAF will be produced "in partnership" with TCAF, effective immediately. The decision to team up was made when both festivals realized their names contained "CAF" and decided, what the heck, eh? The coup gives TCAF control over two of Canada's largest cities, and more than 10% of the nations supply of festival initials. TCAF staff will "oversee" the planning of the festival, but hopefully not in the same fashion cult members oversaw child laborers in the caves underneath the Temple of Doom. No, this is an amicable merger.

In addition to the partnership, Andrea Demonakos, formerly of Emerald City Comic Con and ReedPOP, will take over as Festival Director from founder Shannon Campbell, who will stay on the board in an advisory capacity. Campbell joins several other new board members including Miles Baker and Andrew Woodrow-Butcher from TCAF, Vancouver-based comic creator Nathan Fairbairn, musician/visual artist Jarrett Samson, comedian Dave Coulier, and a moose. Well, those last two are unconfirmed… for now.

TCAF, a worldwide leader in festivals with CAF in their names, had more than 25,000 attendees last year while VanCAF had more than 10,000. The numbers for both are expected to swell after half the population of the United States moves to Canada following the November elections, so it's good that they're building up their infrastructure early. Both festivals are set to take place in May, and VanCAF is taking exhibitor applications now at their website.
