Things To Do In The Midlands This Weekend If You Like Comics, Cosplay, And Gaming
By Olly MacNamee
Saturday 14th February 2015 sees the MCM Comic Con season kick off in style here in the Midlands at the Telford International Centre with the usual mixture of anime, cosplay and comics. A day for fans to show their (Valentine's Day) love and solidarity for all things pop-culturally related, all under one immense roof.
Alongside the Red Dwarf panel (Chris Barrie and Robert Llewellyn) – a popular and regular feature of the MCM Cons – there will also be included a Q and A with Mark Meer, who voices Commander Shepard in the globally successful Mass Effect games series, as well as co-creator of his own comedy series, Tiny Plastic Men. There's definitely a sci-fi theme going on this time round with the presence of battling robots to entertain one and all across the day to boot as well as a Universal studio's panel showing off new trailers for their slate of upcoming films.
On the comic front I am rather excited as not only does this MCM Midlands Comic Con mark my anniversary reporting for Bleeding Cool but T Pub – one of the first publishers I met on my adventures in comic-conland and big friends and fans of BC, have offered me a world exclusive of their new mini-series we championed back when it was a humble Kickstarter, Tortured Life. A title to be released this Autumn, so maybe avoid holding your breathe for a review just yet. I think, however, I'm going to need to fight my Godson for them too, as over the past year he's become something of a Twisted Dark fan too and coming along for the day, as he's heard from me how much fun these cons are.
Of course, there will be plenty more too; comics from Beyond The Bunker, Subversive Comics, Light Man Comics and plenty more, including artists more than ready to sketch for you all across the day.
As well as a whole host of vendors selling anything from mad Japanese Kit-Kats, toys to tee-shirts and film posters, and the chance to catch a photo with a star of TV and film past and present there is also the inclusion of internationally renowned graffiti artist (my other love as you can see from this link right here), Kid30 (Smallkid Design), who will be creating some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle inspired art over the course of the day. Great stuff.
All in all then, a great day to be had and plenty to see and be entertained by too. So, with camera in hand and wallet in pocket (and Godson in tow) here I come Telford for Round 2.
For a full schedule for the day, check out their online Show Guidebook and plan your day.
