Separated at Birth: Marvel's Voices Barbershop Variant and this 2018 Get to Know Black Comix Print
The Marvel's Voices anthology is in stores today, and if you're lucky, you've snagged the version with a variant cover by Brian Stelfreeze. If so, you're treated to some of Marvel's Black superheroes gathered at the barbershop.
But as was pointed out to Bleeding Cool, the cover bears a thematic resemblance to a print by artist Quinn McGowan for the 2018 Get to Know Black Comix Inktober Giveaway.
It's traditional here in the column that was formerly known as Swipe File to offer a poll, allowing readers to decide whether the similarity is the result of a swipe, an homage, or a coincidence. Given the ubiquitousness of barbershops, we're leaning here toward coincidence ourselves. But hey, it's up to you:
Ultimately though, there's no conflict here for you, the reader; you can support both corporate anthologies "telling the stories of diverse creators and their unique perspectives" and their independent counterparts as well. Marvel's Voices #1 is in stores now.
