Things To Do in New York This Weekend If You Like Comics – And Casinos

The New York Wintercon takes place in Queens, New York, this weekend from the people behind of Big Apple Con and Eternal Con.

Taking place at Resorts World Casino (110-00 Rockaway Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11420) it's taking its proximity to the release of the new Star Wars movie very seriously, with four Boba Fett actors (Jeremy Bulloch, Daniel Logan, John Morton, & Dickey Beer) and Taylor Gray (Star Wars Rebels) as well as Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura from Star Trek), Linda Harrison (Planet of the Apes), Michael Biehn (Aliens, Terminator), Haruo Nakajima (the original Godzilla), Austin St. John (Original Red Power Ranger), voice actors from Sailor Moon and Return of the Jedi, three gang members from The Warriors, Steve Guttenberg (Police Academy), wrestling legends Mick Foley and King Kong Bundy, Cosplay Queen YaYa Han (who will be hosting the amazing cosplay contest) and… Santa Claus!

Of course if you go to a comic convention you might be expecting, horror of horrors, to see comic book creators there.

Well Neal Adams (Batman) will be heading up Artist Alley, which will include Rich Buckler (Deathlok), James O'Barr (The Crow), Billy Tucci (Shi), Pat Broderick (Captain Marvel), Dave Dorman (Star Wars), many indie comics creators and publishers and hundreds of dealer tables selling comics, toys, collectibles, videos, T-shirts, sci-fi jewelry, and more, with panels, performances, and filmsrunning through the show.

And Sunday is designated Kids Day, with special programming including all-day activities from the Girl Scouts of America, kids cosplay contest, workshops on Character Creation, Step by Step Drawing Lessons, Writing an Origin Story, and How to Draw a Comic Book Cover. Then there's kids lightsaber training, for 4 to 15 years olds and every kid gets a free lightsaber.
