What Punchline Sees In The Joker – Batman #93 Spoilers
We looked into the appearance of Punchline in Batman #93 a couple of months ago before, you know, everything that happened, happened. And revisited all that yesterday. But today the comic is actually published – in stores that have got them that is. And we get part two of the Harley Quinn/Punchline fight which, as is customary, gets loads of character exposition while they swing mallets and knives at each other's heads.
As Punchline confirms that the Joker is truly in love with Batman, she also defining both her and Harleys' relationship to the Joker in the most stereotypical ways, the woman who sees a man as a work in progress or a woman who accepts him as is. No mention of Poison Ivy in this of course. And also not the way their relationship has usually been portrayed… and definitely not as she sees the Joker now.
Quite a lot of people see a world that would benefit from burning to the ground. Batman #93 puts the Joker on that trajectory with Punchline as his cheering squad. Is this a villain with a point? Or can people actually see the clowns running the world without anyone's help? The state of the world makes that easier right now.
And Harley Quinn is Punchline's knifing cushion. Catwoman next. Batman to come?
