The Alienist: Angel of Darkness: Dr. Kreizler Learns to Hear the Music

With a little more than a month to go before TNT's The Alienist: Angel of Darkness is open for business, the limited series/second season is continuing its series of mini "refresher courses" on who you need to know and what they're all about before Sunday, July 26 rolls around. With the first season currently available on HBO Max, the following clip reminds viewers why Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl, Rush) isn't just your everyday investigator heading into the adaptation of Caleb Carr's second novel in the "Alienist" series.

With Frank Pugliese (House of Cards) serving as showrunner, Angel of Darkness finds Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood), who has opened her own private detective agency, enlisting the help of Dr. Kreizler and John Moore (Luke Evans, Midway) to hunt down an elusive killer. One of the reasons why Kreizler's skills are so essential. He finds ways to hear the music:

In The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, Sara has opened her own private detective agency and is leading the charge on a brand-new case. She reunites with Dr. Kreizler, the formidable alienist, and John Moore, now a New York Times reporter, to find Ana Linares, the kidnapped infant daughter of the Spanish Consular. Their investigation leads them down a sinister path of murder and deceit, heading towards a dangerous and elusive killer. As in The Alienist, the series shines a light on the provocative issues of the era – the corruption of institutions, income inequality, yellow press sensationalism, and the role of women in society – themes that still resonate today.

Returning this season with Brühl, Evans, and Fanning are Douglas Smith (Big Little Lies) and Matthew Shear (Mistress America) as twin brothers Marcus and Lucius Isaacson; Robert Ray Wisdom (The Wire) as Cyrus; and Ted Levine (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as former NYPD Police Commissioner Thomas Byrnes. Melanie Field (Heathers) and Rosy McEwen (The Letter Writer) join the cast this season. The Alienist: Angel of Darkness is produced by Paramount Television Studios, with Anonymous Content's Rosalie Swedlin, showrunner Stuart Carolan, director David Caffrey, writer Alyson Feltes, Pavlina Hatoupis, Ben Rosenblatt, Eric Roth, and Cary Joji Fukunaga serving as executive producers.
