"The Expanse": Amazon Studios Releases Teaser Trailer and 5-Minute Clip for Season 4

Amazon Studios released a new teaser trailer and clip from the 4th season of The Expanse today. Adapted from the novels by the pseudonymous James S.A. Corey, the show originally aired on SyFy for three seasons. After it was canceled, Amazon Studios picked up the series after a fan campaign to save it. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos being a fan probably helped.

The show adapted the novels fairly faithfully, with minor changes to fit the demands of TV storytelling. Set in a future where Earth has colonized the Solar System, the story follows James Holden and the crew of the salvaged gunship the Rocinante. Humanity has not yet invented interstellar travel, but an alien protomolecular with mysterious properties and agenda changes everything. Holden and his crew get caught in the middle of tensions between Earth, Mars and the 'Belter governments in the fight for control of the protomolecule.

Season 3 ended with a new status quo for the galaxy. Holden's actions open up the ring, an artificial wormhole that grants Humanity access to other solar systems through more rings. A new interstellar gold rush is about to begin. Amazon Studios released a 5-minute clip from the fourth season to accompany the trailer.

"With the Ring Gates now open to thousands of new planets, a blood-soaked gold rush begins, igniting new conflicts between Earth, Mars, and the Belt. Meanwhile, on one unexplored planet, the Rocinante crew gets caught in a violent clash between an Earth mining corporation and desperate Belter settlers as deadly new threats from the protomolecule emerge."

The Expanse Season 4 premieres on Amazon Prime on December 13th, 2019.
