Everything Wonder Woman Knew Was Wrong (Major Spoilers)

Today sees the release of Wonder Woman #11 by Greg Rucka and Liam Sharp. It is called "Lies". I think "A Geography Lesson" may have been more appropriate.

In previous issues of the Rebirth series we have skipped between a story telling her very first tale, of living on Paradise Island, and then leaving it for the world of man – and for Steve Trevor, and with a story set in the present where she is challenging her very reality. She has lost Paradise Island and is trying to find it.

It's been seen as a meta-tale, challenging previous versions of the character, the nature of herself as God Of War, and of her origins. It's been quite the journey.

But this issue she has made it back, bringing Steve with her. But something is wrong. The reds, the blues, the rips, the tears, the tatters, the rot…

This is not the Paradise Island that Steve remembers. And Wonder Woman begins to realise that it is not hers either.

And then the revelation.

Wonder Woman has never been back to Paradise Island since that first time she left. Every time Paraside Island has been portrayed in the comics since, it has been a fake. An illusion, A mockery. A parody. Every one, from every creator.

Everything she knows, everything we knew, was wrong.

I hope someone told Scott Lobdell, writing her fellow Amazon, Artemis, over on Red Hood & The Outlaws. Is she an illusion too?
