This week is children's book week, so appropriately the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has been very active making new announcements and spotlighting relevant programs. This week they have announced Comics Connector, a new program bringing together classrooms and comics creators. The goal is not only to raise awareness and foster relationships, but thereby help curtail censorship through increased understanding.

CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein explains:

Our hope is that it will become a useful, living resource that connects local creators with local community institutions in a way that helps prevent censorship by increasing understanding about comics.

So, how does the program work? It is a "a resource that lists comics creators and industry professionals who are able to provide lectures and workshops for schools and libraries". The creators and professionals are listed by regional location and then alphabetically. What can we do to help? We can sign up and ask creators and professionals we know to sign up, too.

You can do that by filling out a form on the CBLDF webpage to be found here. And if you'd like to make suggestions to improve the system being pioneered, you can do that, too here: info@cbldf.org.

The Comics Connector is a centralized list that can act as a resource facilitating more comics presence in classrooms and educational events. All in all, a great idea that could help spark big change. Learn more about Comics Connector today and spread the word.

If you are a comics pro, chances are you'll see many names on this list already that you recognize! I certainly do. You'll be in good company if you join up.
