Deadpool To Kill Cable, Return To Villainous Roots In Despicable Deadpool By Duggan And Koblish In Marvel Legacy
The war between Marvel and Fox over the X-Men movie rights continues! Just as Cable is about to make his debut in Fox's cinematic Universe with Deadpool 2, Marvel is putting the two best friends at odds when Marvel Legacy comes to The Despicable Deadpool. Take that, Fox!
Returning to the legacy numbering of #287, The Despicable Deadpool sees Deadpool return to his roots as a "bad guy," according to ukulele strumming Marvel editor Jordan White in an interview with IGN. Writer Gerry Duggan and White elaborated on the plot:
Duggan: Just before Secret Empire began Deadpool needed help to save the Preston family, and his friends weren't immediately available — so he turned to an enemy: Stryfe. Stryfe saved for lives for him, and now Deadpool must pay his price: he has to kill 4 people for him. Cable is the first name that Stryfe gives him. Deadpool might have been able to do some damage control after Secret Empire, but now with Stryfe calling in his maker.
White: It makes a lot of sense, really—Cable was the first friend Wade had that did the heavy lifting of bringing him around to the good-guy side of the fence. What better way to break bad than to betray the first guy who saw good in you?
