Don't Worry Folks, Spider-Man Is Not Going Hydra In Secret Empire #3

I ran a few semi-spoiler teasers for Secret Empire #2, #3 and Secret Empire Uprising #1 last week.

One of which included the line,

Issue 3 ends with a familiar Marvel hero declaring themselves to be Hydra. No brainwashing, no fluoride in the water, but it makes a lot of sense.

Some folk also read a speculative article on CBR in which they looked at a variant cover for Secret Empire and theorised that it meant Spider-Man was going Hydra.

Secret Empire Variant Might Tease a Dark Turn for Spider-Man

…a new variant cover for "Secret Empire" #3 may cause a similar outcry among fans, as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man appears to be siding with the Captain America, whose loyalties currently lie with Hydra.

The cover, from artist Mike Deodato, shows Old Man Logan battling a group of Hydra soldiers in the rain, with a large "X" setup in the background. In the forefront stands Spidey looking back at the reader, holding an index finger to his mouth as if to say, "Shhh, nothing to see here."

Of course, you can't judge a story by a variant cover, as they're often created as a purchasing incentive for the most loyal of comic book collectors. Will Spider-Man join Captain America as a member of Hydra, or is this all a ruse to sell more copies of the book?

Well, I can confirm that no such scene occurs in the issue, Spider-Man's involvement is not part of the story.

Also, that wouldn't make as much sense as the actual hero going Hydra does…
