Free Umbrella Academy NCComicon Variants for Aaron Haaland's Live-Selling Events
Aaron Haaland of A Comic Shop is back doing videos, after years of A Comic Show reviews here on Bleeding Cool. This time he's doing Facebook Live-selling videos with Ultimate Comics, and is giving every Bleeding Cool reader who participates in the August 3rd launch, a free Umbrella Academy: Oblivion Hotel #1 NCComicon exclusive. Here's the link for the event.
Way back at his 2015 NCComicon panel, Aaron asked Gerard Way why he doesn't just write Doom Patrol since after Umbrella Academy it seemed like a great fit for him and DC wasn't doing a thing with the characters. Way responded by saying he had a pitch approved for just that, but couldn't fit it into his schedule. Becky Cloonan chimed in with the cover she'd drawn for the pitch, and by NCComicon 2016 Young Animal launched with Way's Doom Patrol. So NCComicon had a relationship with Aaron helping with panels and Gerard Way making moves at the con, and the con is owned by Ultimate Comics. That's why when Aaron was tapped to do live selling from out of the Ultimate Comic Warehouse, giving an Umbrella Academy #1 exclusive to everyone who purchases anything from the first show was a great fit.
The Ultimate Warehouse has over a million comics with many boxes untouched for upwards to 15 years. This will be a fun run unearthing time capsule-like long boxes, talking about the books, and selling them. They promise great prices, some keys, and of course one of the three Umbrella Academy #1 exclusives you can see here randomly placed with every order.
As far as live selling, Aaron feels this is a vibrant piece of the comic retailing landscape after being first turned onto it by Rick Shea at Famous Faces & Funnies and Jesse James teaming up with his multi-store Comic Book Shopping Network. Aaron also does live weekly Tuesday night shows on his own page. He says that the combination of interacting with customers online live is similar way they're used to interacting in a local comic shop, plus the fans bantering with each other in the comments section of the show creates something very different than traditional online shopping cart or eBay/Amazon buying. Sure, you can watch a show without buying anything, but they include enough free items and prizes to entice and engage.
The Ultimate Comics Live Show kicks off tomorrow, Saturday August 3rd at 7pm EST and continues Sunday August 4th at noon, and they promise any purchase will include a free Umbrella Academy exclusive courtesy of NCComicon.
