Marvel Cancels Last Comic With A Solo Female Lead, X-23 (Oh No They Don't)
For all the fuss over DC Comics and their portrayal of women in their comics, they current publish in their superhero line, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Catwoman, Voodoo, Batgirl, Batwoman, all comics with a female solo lead. Mostly written and drawn by men of course.
Marvel does have a more impressive line up of female creators, with more writers and artists filling their credits, and in prominent books as well. Of course, one of them, Marjorie Lui, is writing X-23.
Marvel's only female solo lead character book. Or rather it was. It appears to be cancelled, its last issue shipping in January, issue 20.
So as of February, no Marvel solo female book. There is Fear Itself: The Fearless, a twelve issue book starring Valkyrie and Sin, but neither of the characters' names are in the title – and that will be gone relatively soon, anyway.
And no, Generation Hope does not count.
And yes, I know Hit Girl is on the way, but that's not part of Marvel's superhero line.
And no, neither is John Carter: A Princess Of Mars.
Nor Northanger Abbey, seriously, you're reaching here.
This kind of thing matters.
UPDATE: Wait a minute… there's one we totally forgot…
Ghost Rider. I know, I haven't been reading it either. Clearly, I should have been… from January's solicitations;
"Can Alejandra learn to control the hellish power of the Spirit of Vengeance or will the whole planet be consumed in a cleansing firestorm?"
