Days Of Future Past: Alan Moore's Doctor Strange From 1970
We've looked into the very, very early work of Alan Moore, uncovering what appears to be his earliest published work, written in 1969. Today we have another early fanzine not listed on his biography, the front and back covers for the fanzine The Planet Comicollector #2 from 1970, portraying Marvel's Doctor Strange.
The eBay listing set at $500 states,
The recent sale of Utopia/Valhalla for over $5000 prompted me to search through my old fanzines as I thought I might have a copy. I certainly remember getting it at the time. Sadly it has gone missing. However I do have this, and these covers by Alan Moore could be the artwork mentioned in Utopia/Valhalla, which folded after one issue. The front cover of this, typical of early fanzine production, was printed on paper about 1" taller than the rest of it, hence it is ragged at top edge. Also the inside of the front cover has a handwritten letter from the editor to myself; and the front cover has become detached from the rest of the zine. Few items inside ticked. I spoke to editor Paul of Utopia/Valhalla just recently and he told me it sold about 30 copies. My copy has gone missing so I don't know when another will show up. Word has gone round UK fandom about the sale, but I don't know anyone who has a copy. Planet Comicollector, which folded after this second issue, is entirely ads so I guess not too many people would have had a reason to keep it. Some of my own zines published in the early 70s had print runs of 2-300 and even these almost never show up. This could well be unique. Will mail insured worldwide.
