Is Matt Kindt Mapping Out The Future Of The Valiantverse In Rai #2? (UPDATE)

Retailers have been asked to not sell the Rai #2 "pop-up mask" cover due to a manufacturing error. So instant collectible there, then. But the other covers should be available. And good, because there's something interesting going on.

When Valiant announced the new Rai series by Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain, they made to great lengths to advertise it as a continuity-free introduction to the Valiant line. (After all, it does take place 2000 years in the future…)

Well, that was good for the first issue at least.

Rai #2 hit stands today and it appears that Matt Kindt is about to unload a whole lot of revelations pertaining the future of certain heroes and villains…especially those with ties to his other Valiant title (set in the modern day), Unity…

For instance, Kindt and CAFU just wrapped a story arc introducing Ninjak's arch-nemesis Dr. Silk, who looked like this at the time:

And today's Rai #2, the title character seeks out a certain Augustus Silk…

And then provides some tantalizing teases of what exactly the clone-happy Dr. Silk has been up to over the past 2,000 years…

The Alphane Lunar Genocide? The Tropic Redaction? And 41st century connections to Unity team members Livewire and Eternal Warrior?

Could these all be plot points we'll be seeing across the Valiant line in the coming year(s)? In Unity? Or other as-yet unannounced titles? Only Matt Kindt knows for sure…and both he and Valiant aren't talking just yet!
