Juan Jose Ryp Absolutely Destroys Book of Death: Legends Of The Geomancer At Valiant
Fresh off of their recent movie announcements, Valiant is looking to put more copies of this year's event on shelves and has come up with a rather novel way of doing just that for their upcoming summer crossover Book of Death, beginning in July.
Case in point: they recently announced the four-issue, retailer-incentive "companion series" for the event, Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer…and the art is something to behold.
Written by Valiant regular Fred Van Lente with rather amazing art by Juan Jose Ryp, the first issue of the series will only be made available to retailers at a rate of one copy per every 25 of Book of Death #1 ordered. Subsequent issues of Legends of the Geomancer will be offered at a rate of one copy per 10 for the later issues of main Book of Death title.
The book takes place in pre-history and spotlights the origin and first appearance the first Geomancer, delivering a self-contained story that ties into the core Book of Death series, but is not essential to it.
Created as an promotional tool for their summer crossover, Valiant is giving retailers a hefty discount and full returnability on Book of Death #1, plus this tie-in series as an extra-added incentive, so while Legends of the Geomancer may be hard to get…it won't be as crazy a proposition as it sounds…
But that hasn't stopped Valiant reps from making a real sticking point of the series' limited availability, indicating that it won't be collected for the eventual Book of Death trade or released digitally via the usual providers. So if you want to get your hands on this book, better make sure to check that your local retailer is stocking it…because this chance may not come again…
