When Tom Akel Created Stan Lee Ringtones – Seekers, JMS, September Mourning, 1000 and Teen Wolf At MTV At WonderCon
Evic Oropilla writes from Wondercon;
The MTV Geek panel was composed of Tom Akel, Marc Silvestri, Emily Lazar and Bleeding Cool's own Heather Kenealy.
The panel started off talking about The Seekers. Tom went over the history of how The Seekers started out as a contest to find a new artist and writer that had not been published yet. The winners were Heather Kenealy (writer) and Stephen Green (artist). The Seekers storyline (about 100 pages) is finished and currently being edited. The next step will be to go to art which Tom stated, "hope to have a good portion of it finished by San Diego Comic-Con but we may hold it till a little later in the year and it will be in print and in stores by the end of the year."
The moderator then brought up a JMS (J. Michael Straczynski) graphic novel, artist Sid Kotian, that MTV Geek has in the pipeline that is currently in art and should be done around July/August and will be released shortly after that (NYCC possible release). Tom also mentioned that JMS studio and the Wachowski siblings will be developing a web series on Netflix that will be a live action sequel to the graphic novel.
The next project that was introduced was September Mourning and how it is going to be a transmedia project as it would incorporate other media such as music. Marc and Emily went over how the projected started with Emily contacting Marc via MySpace and how the story will be spread over various types of media.
Other transmedia projects that MTV Geek are developing is 1000 by Sanford Greene which is a work in progress and expected to be released next year and two prequel Teen Wolf comics. One prequel will be dealing with Gerard's backstory and the other prequel will be about Derek's backstory.
They had some technical difficulties with the computer so media for The Seekers and 1000 were not able to be shown.
An interesting fact from the panel is that Tom Akel's first project with Stan Lee was creating ringtones with Stan's voice.
