Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Tim Seeley And Kyle Higgins Talk To Bleeding Cool About Batman Eternal
By Ian Melton
One title, coming out every week, starring one character who has a huge supporting cast that is going to get a huge spotlight as the weekly event unfolds and the entire series is shrouded in a lot mystery as this series takes the core "Batman" place (as Batman tells the Zero Year storyline) establishing what is going on in Gotham right now. Already Batman #28 has given us some clues as to what is coming up and Bleeding Cool went out at ECCC to try and get more clues from some very tight lipped individuals about Batman Eternal, four of its core writers Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Tim Seeley and Kyle Higgins.
Ian Melton: What character are you enjoying writing the most?
Scott Snyder: Stephanie Brown. I'm a huge fan of her character and have been wanting to see her brought into the New 52 for quite a while.
Tim Seeley: Alfred. He's really got a lot going on in the series and is so enjoyable to write him really involved in the Bat-universe.
James Tynion IV: Red Robin, Tim Drake. Love the character and have been one of his biggest fans in forever.
Kyle Higgins: I can't tell you! I don't know if we've revealed the character yet so I'll say Jim Gordon for now. Jim, and the situation he finds himself in is really unique and not something we've seen in the Batman books before.
IM: What character should fans watch for?
Scott Snyder: Selina Kyle. You've seen teases of it in Batman #28 but what Selina is going to do is going to change Gotham and the Gotham underworld.
James Tynion IV: Jason Bard. You'll see him in the first issue and he is a major character for the whole series."
Tim Seeley also when asked about his recent run on Talon said it was a great starting point for him to jump into Batman Eternal. As for Talon in Batman Eternal, Seeley said he liked the character and having him show up in it "would just make sense wouldn't it?"
In addition Bleeding Cool talked with inker Derek Fridolfs about the series and his work with Dustin Ngygen, one of the artists for the series, and Derek said overall the issues they have been working on have been great but he can't really tease anything because he doesn't understand the context. Since he and Dustin only see the scripts they work on they don't have an idea of the overall story, just the small parts they are working on (which at this time is issues numbering in the teens).
Batman Eternal #1. Next Wednesday, folks.
