Is That Spike Lee Driving the Immortal Hulk? A Green Comic Book?
The success of The Green Book at the Oscars this year, beating Spike Lee's BlackKklansman to Best Picture, saw quite a lot of people talk about issues with the racial politics in the movie. Though Spike Lee probably said it best, saying "Every time somebody's driving somebody, I lose. But they changed the seating arrangement!" a reference to Do the Right Thing not even being nominated the year that Driving Miss Daisy won.
It does seem that this may have influenced Joe Bennett's choice of driver in today's Immortal Hulk #18, driving Bruce Banner – who has just woken up with a moustache chosen by another personality in his body, that of Joe Fixit. And has to ascertain who he is, where he is, and why he's going there.
With Spike Lee, happy to tell him. Driving Mr Banner. The Gamma-Green Book. You do the titles. And they end up at Friedrich Inn.
Named after Gary Friedrich who wrote some of the very first Hulk stories and help define the character into the form he would be most famous for. Before suing Marvel Comics over the ownership of Ghost Rider, and being countersued as well, of course.
And just as, every time somebody's driving somebody, Spike Lee loses… so it doesn't end well when an Abomination turns up…
Sorry, Spike… you were once talked about directing a Nightwatch movie for Marvel.
Oh and we have a War Of The Realms crossover. There. Done and dusted.
IMMORTAL HULK #18
(W) Al Ewing (A) Joe Bennett (CA) Alex Ross
• Bruce Banner is trapped inside Shadow Base Site A – powerless and hunted by their top assassin.
• He can't run forever. He can't change form. He can't survive…without THE IMMORTAL HULK.
• But not the one you think.
