The Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, 6th October, 2019 – Make More Mutants

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait till the weekend to get this week's comics. House of X grabbed almost every store's topspot, and Batman almost every stores' second spot. Then it was all to play for, with two Immortal Hulks and it's notable that Die is still behaving very strongly…

Who had this to say:

House of X enjoys one last view from the top of our Weekly Top Ten at FFF. It honestly doesn't feel like it's been 11 weeks, but here we are at the penultimate issue of one of the best selling weekly minis we've had in years. By themselves, "weekly" and "mini-series" terrify me. Who knew all you needed to make it work was a big-time writer and a fan-favorite team. Who knew?! Batman is closing in on its massive run and while I'm sure it'll still be a popular book with James Tynion at the helm, I just hope it will be able to keep selling like it is. Die, Legion and Justice League took the remaining spots in the top half of our Top Ten.

We were shorted all of our main covers for DCeased this week which is a huge disappointment as that book has been a top seller every time it hits the shelf. Luckily we sold the copies of the other two covers like hotcakes and it hit the middle of our Top Ten at #6. Marvel Comics #1001 is the surprise book of the week. I'm shocked we sold as well on #1000 as we did and still in disbelief that we managed to sell as many of this issue as well. Turns out Marvel fans like what they like and that's okay by me. Ghost Rider rode into our list at #10 which is a little disappointing as I've heard some buzz start to build up around. Hopefully, it'll pop in the coming weeks. Spider-Verse and Absolute Carnage Immortal Hulk rounded out the back half of our list. It's a safe bet that Powers will likewise enjoy a similar spot as its sister series next week, but with so many Joker titles coming out it's tough to call.

When the Fair is in town the only one who does well is the Fair, well, that and House of X. That title is recession proof. We have typically slow sales this time of year with the Fair being one factor, and this year is no different. Still, the numbers shake out about the same as always on House of X and that number is high. Batman sold pretty strong and the Mattina DCeased cover for it sold particularly better than the Romita Jr. one. Ghost Rider hit the top 10 but not at a terribly high spot. I'm not worried though, if we take the overall number sold over the next month it will probably be very solid. It's gonna be a slow steady burn I'm willing to bet.

HOUSE/POWERS is now 11 for 12 on a streak of our number one sellers each week, and somehow I suspect they're gonna land that flawless streak with the final issue next week. So! On to everything else.

Tom King's BATMAN run, even in its twilight issues, maintains solid sales: it would have been our best seller this week if not for those pesky mutants. Just behind that is the continually just excellent IMMORTAL HULK from Al Ewing and Joe Bennett. Can't stress enough how rock-solid that book is.

Middle of the list sees a few usual suspects, like JUSTICE LEAGUE and FANTASTIC FOUR. DCEASED is also holding rather decent sales for a gimmicky mini-series (to which I would credit Tom Taylor's excellent writing, since people simply *must* be tired of zombies at this point. Right? Right???). MARVEL COMICS #1001 (sigh) is also kicking around in there.

Bringing up the rear we've got Morrison and Sharp's wonderfully weird GREEN LANTERN, as well as the debut of a new SPIDER-VERSE series.

The Wicked & the Divine TP 9 and Monstress TP 4 are also both super popular over here, and we've had a good amount of interest in Safe Sex, too.

Six Marvels in our store's Top Ten this week, four DC's–but Batman is no longer the number one book in our store as customers continue to drop the book, asking us to "let me know when it gets good again." Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium #2 fell to tenth place in our store due to customer dissatisfaction over the fact that they got no Legion in the first issue (and we expect some negative response from those who did buy it when they discover that they barely get any Legion in the second issue as well). Al Ewing manages to put two Hulk titles in the Top Ten this week–the regular Immortal Hulk and the Absolute Carnage tie-n. And Savage Avengers remains far and away our strongest Avengers family book. Ghost Rider got off to a good start as well.
