The People You Run Into – Dan Fraga Had Over 100 Pieces Of Art With Him At Brunch

Rich let everyone know that Dan Fraga, formerly director of HBO's The Ricky Gervais Show, was starting up a new daily web comic called The Grave.

I happened to run into Dan and his family this morning at brunch and said hi. He told me about The Grave and how he was doing it every day and even adding color on Sundays. He then asked if I wanted to look at the artwork… he had it there with him. I said "Of course" and waited, expecting him to return with a standard sized portfolio. Instead he returned with a small clear case and handed me a stack of trading card sized pieces of art that were absolutely gorgeous.

He draws a new one every day, all on sketchcards, and then scans them into Photoshop to add the dialogue and get it ready to post. The colors he does on the Sunday pieces are by hand. To show how dedicated he is to the story, he showed me one particular piece, it's set in 1989 and he researched specifically the comic covers that would be on sale at the time and added them to the piece.

Interestingly enough, Top Cow just put out a Witchblade cover in honor of that particular X-men piece by Marc Silvestri.

So what is The Grave? It's about a group of kids on a neighborhood camping trip that stumble across a grave. In the grave they find a full clothed skeleton and a cigar box with seven items in it. Those seven items lead the kids to discover the amazing life of the person in the grave. The story ranges from the early 1930's to the late 1980's.
