Fast & Furious 9 Pushed Back Six Weeks to Memorial Day Weekend 2020
There was another release date shift today on top of Bond 25 moving back two months. According to Variety, Fast & Furious 9 has moved from it's April 10, 2020 release date to May 22, 2020. This is the second time the movie has been pushed back; previously it was supposed to come out in April 2019 but was pushed back a year when Universal Pictures decided to greenlight the Hobbs and Shaw spin-off movie.
The move is good for Bond 25 since it doesn't have a lot of competition now and the Fast and Furious movies tend to bring in some big numbers. It might not be good for Fast and Furious 9. The move to Memorial Day weekend means that this movie is now going up against Godzilla vs. Kong and The Spongebob Movie. One of those two might shift their release dates now. For Godzilla vs. Kong whether or not it stays at that release date will depend on how Godzilla: King of the Monsters does this May.
The Fast and Furious series has made $5.1 billion in the worldwide box office and has been keeping the lights on at Universal Pictures since 2001. The first spin-off movie is due out later this year.
Summary: Lawman Luke Hobbs and outcast Deckard Shaw form an unlikely alliance when a cyber-genetically enhanced villain threatens the future of humanity.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, directed by David Leitch, stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzalaz, and Idris Elba. It will be released on August 2nd 2019.
