Turn Your Attention Towards The Pink Droid: R2-KT To Appear In Star Wars: The Force Awakens
In 2004 Katie Johnson was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor. Her father, Albin Johnson, decided to create a droid in honor of his daughter, and named it R2-KT. Being the founder of the 501st Legion, which is an organization of enthusiasts dedicated to making Star Wars costumes, helped with the process as he realized the droid wouldn't be finished before her death.
Many of the people that contribute to the Star Wars films have generous kind hearts and do nice things for fans. This was true for R2 droid builder Andy Schwartz, who painted his own R2-KT and sent it over to the family.
I think we can all get on board with a pink R2-D2 looking droid. In fact, the female droid has appeared in the David Filoni-directed animated series The Clone Wars as QT-KT, a droid owned by Jedi Master Aayla Secura (a character who appears in the prequel films). R2-KT is also expected to make an appearance in the upcoming J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
What a wonderful way to honor Katie Johnson.
