Rookie Linebacker Didn't Get Drafted… But He's Getting His Favorite Snack

benboulwareBen Boulware was not happy during the NFL Draft. The undrafted free agent linebacker from Clemson ended up signing with the Carolina Panthers the next day and went into their first rookie mini-camp with a chip on his shoulder. He didn't have the measurable during the NFL Combine that would draw a team's attention, but his on field play made the Panthers quickly scoop him up after the final pick was made.

With the recent loss of linebacker A.J. Klein, it would be a surprise if Boulware doesn't end up on the 53-man roster going into the season, or at least the practice squad.

But Boulware did find something that made him happy last week. His marketing agency… yes, we live in a world where an undrafted free agent has a marketing agency… contacted him to find out where his Lunchables should be sent. Seems Boulware is a huge fan of the snack food and told the agency that he wanted his first deal to be with Lunchables. When they let him know that Lunchables was sending him a bunch of product, he cried tears of joy.

Boulware grew up in Anderson, South Carolina with his older brother Garrett Boulware, a catcher in the Cincinnati Reds minor league system. They grew up eating Lunchables and Boulware says Garrett texted him shortly after he heard. Boulware admits he may share a box or two with his brother… but no one else.

Some folks might chide Boulware for not going after something a little more valuable than the $1.50 to $2.50 snacks, but Boulware told David Newton of ESPN:

I might work toward that, but I'm going to stay to my roots for now. I've been eating Lunchables for a long time. And I don't have Ruth's Chris money right now. All I've got is Lunchables money.

Boulware is currently living in a small hotel room in Charlotte with a tiny refrigerator. He's not sure how many they are sending, but if it's a lot, he might need to buy a bigger refrigerator. And what will Panthers nutritionist Jennifer Brunelli say about how Lunchables work with his prescribed diet?
