All Female Horror Anthology XX On The Way
We have The Expendabelles, an all-female answer to the male-driven action genre, in development, and now an all-female horror anthology is on the way as well, according to The Wrap.
Called XX, the film will feature short horror-filled segments directed by women and featuring a female lead. The directors attached all have horror cred: Jennifer Lynch (Boxing Helena), Mary Harron (American Psycho), Karyn Kusama (Jennifer's Body) , Jen and Sylvia Soska (Dead Hooker in a Trunk) and Jovanka Vuckovic (The Captured Bird).
Like recently popular horror anthologies like V/H/S and The ABCs of Death, the directors will all develop their own stories, and the segments will be linked by stop-motion animator Sofia Carrillo, who will also create the film's title sequence. Producer Todd Brown notes:
One of the givens of so many horror films has been the objectification of young women, and we thought it was time for a different approach to scaring audiences and letting the female voice be heard.
Even though I am no fan of the genre and will probably never see this, that's good news for everyone, but especially for those of you who do enjoy watching people get hacked to pieces.
