A New $5 Coupon, Radio Ads And Real Changes – Just A Few Things Marvel Are Using To Promote Avengers Vs X-Men
Here are a few of the things Marvel has got planned to help promote the Avengers Vs X-Men crossover through the summer. And do you know what? I think it might just work.
Avengers Vs X-Men #1 is a new reader jumping on point, for those unfamiliar with the current Marvel universe. Possibly obvious, but you'd be surprised how often that gets forgotten. The marketing campaign will be Marvel's largest – read, most expensive – to date. This includes national radio advertising, online ads on key pop culture and entertainment sites, all major comic book sites except one, Facebook, search engine targeted at comic readers, lapsed fans, gamers and Marvel film fans, as well as mass media publicity, attending SXSW to promote the series, announcing… something dealing with digital and print. They'll launch another $5 Coupon for digital readers redeemable against print comics, over a longer period than one day, timed to coincide with the Avengers Vs X-Men #1 release. There are the parties of course, promotional events arranged at comic stores, releasing the first issue at 8pm on the Tuesday before standard release, with a caseload of promotional kit, both Avengers and X-Men theme.
And Marvel are also promising that the events of the series will actually affect the Marvel Universe, making it a different place, with actions taken setting the tone for… a new Marvel Universe.
A new Marvel Universe. Hmm.
They're comparing it to Civil War in terms of impact, coming out of the series and keeping new readers for… whetever comes next. The new Marvel 52?
